Balanced Literacy Diet
The Balanced Literacy Diet is a framework that presents literacy concepts using the familiar terminology of a healthy diet. Everyone knows that in order to grow and develop there are certain food groups we need on a daily basis. We also know it’s important to consume foods from these groups in balance and that some foods are more important at certain stages of development. Finally, we know that flavor and presentation are what make foods appealing and therefore more likely to be consumed. The Balanced Literacy Diet website is organized around 15 key “food groups” for literacy.

Brighter Futures Manual
The Building Brighter Futures Research Project was a project that was carried out by Taber and District Community Adult Learning Association and funded through the Office of Literacy and Essential Skills. In the project two essential skills - Numeracy and Computer Use were addressed in a classroom situation using practical activities that are part of everyday family life.
The Brighter Futures manual is a FREE resource available to adult, family and literacy coordinators who are seeking new resources to assist them in incorporating essential skills into their programming. Although the tool was created for the use in family literacy programs it can easily be adapted for adult literacy programs. The manual provides step by step lessons, web resources, assessments and evaluations related to computer and numeracy.
The tool uses authentic documents to teach computer and numeracy skills. Increase your essential skills while gaining useful information to save you money in your daily living. For more information contact: Taber and District Community Adult Learning Association

Learning and Violence
Violence shapes us. It can make us stronger as learners, teachers, and simply as people in the world. It can also make it hard to trust ourselves and others, and difficult to learn. Its impact on learning is not well recognized, but the resources and allies found here can help all of us – whatever our role or experience – to address this issue creatively.
