Literacy Programs

Volunteer Tutor Adult Literacy Programs

There are 71 Volunteer Adult Tutor Programs active in Alberta. These programs recruit and train volunteer literacy tutors, and match them with adult learners. Tutors and learners meet once or twice a week, at home, in a library or in the literacy program’s office. In most communities, the Community Adult Learning Council is responsible for the community literacy services, as part of the Community Adult Learning program.

Family Literacy

Family literacy projects encourage parents and children to develop their reading and writing skills together. The Family Literacy Project Fund supports approximately 30 literacy projects annually to help meet family literacy needs in communities.
